FYI--Beefeaters, or Yeoman Warders, have been guarding the Tower since 1485. They were responsible for looking after any prisoners at the Tower, and guarding the British crown jewels. There are 35 Yeomen Warders and one Chief Warder - all of which are retired from the British Armed Forces. They must have at least 22 years of service, hold the Long Service and Good Conduct medal, and must be former senior non-commissioned officers. Present day duties also include acting as tour guides.
